BCU 4 Star White Water Kayak Training and Assessment Courses
Successful performance at this level indicates that a candidate has the skill level required to lead a group of 4 competent* paddlers in appropriate locations, up to moderate water conditions**. The emphasis is on the application of strokes to achieve suitable techniques and boat control in real situations. White Water Three Star Kayak standard is the appropriate level of performance for paddlers to begin working towards the White Water Four Star Kayak Leaders Award.
*Competent in this instance equates to a paddler or paddlers who require no coaching to be in that environment
** Moderate Water is grade 2 and upto grade 3 if White Water spec boats are used
Two Days BCU 4 Star White Water Kayak Training (skills and leadership)
Pre-requisites
• First aid award (minimum 8hrs training including CPR) optional for training
• Previous experience:
• BCU Membership (optional)
Two Days BCU 4 Star Assessment White Water Kayak Leadership
Pre-requisites
• LR Form and Registration (details bottom of page)
• Experience must include at least
• 6 grade 3 river trips as a member of a group
• 6 grade 2-3 river trips as an assistant leader
• BCU 4 Star Kayak Training Leadership and Skills
• BCU White Water Safety and Rescue Training Course
• First aid award (minimum 8hrs training including CPR)
• Candidates must be 16 or over at the time of assessment.
• Candidates under the age of 18 can take the award, but cannot be deemed responsible for leadership by law until they turn 18.
• BCU Membership or private insurance
During the Autumn/Winter these courses are available in the West Country of England.

From 1st July 2009 all candidates (living in England) wishing to attend a BCU 4 or 5 Star Leader Assessment need to register with Canoe England prior to their assessment using a "Leader award Registration (LR)" form. Please allow at least two weeks to complete the registration process.
BCU Fees to be paid at time of registration not to the assessor
