This spring Canoe Control is offering a fantastic six week ACG learning/training program based entirely in the South of France.
This is a once in a career opportunity to Accelerate yourself to the next level.
We have packaged together many of the *BCU/UKCC (*NGB) coach education and skill based training and assessment courses. To produce an exciting and dynamic, fast track Canoe/Kayak Coaching/Guiding course. This course is designed to give you the technical tools, skills, qualifications and initial experience to become a professional working in this exciting and demanding white water (moderate water) environment.

- Also factored into this time scale are consolidation/mentoring periods and rest days

Course Content:
This course has been developed to prepare motivated people wishing to achieve a career in Coaching and Guiding in Canoe & kayak. But finding time spent in the UK frustrated with cold weather and low river levels. These conditions can certainly make it difficult to prepare for and help toward achieving NGB Awards. The location (South of France) of this course will allow you to access a rich experience filled program designed to help you achieve the NGB awards needed for success.
The valued time spent is ideal for people who wish to take a career break, with the view of becoming skilled and qualified in two specific disciplines in moderate water conditions. The excellent venue for this course is not only confirmed by its South of France location, but its been specifically chosen to maximize the guaranteed water opportunities available.
Other entry routes are available to help secure work with-in this area of employment. But few have the immediate and lasting results that can be achieved by the rapid progress gained on our ACG course/program. To assist the candidates to keep on their fast track, personal development, daily reflection and weekly reviews will be completed to maximize time spent with trainers/tutors.
Groups of real students will be provided to be taught on a regular basis, to full fill the L2 development phase through reviewed coaching practice.
The ACG course team:
To present this course Canoe Control has assembled a dynamic team of four core Coaches, who will both inspire and challenge. Team members are full time working professionals, who between them have an immense experience of Coaching and World-Wide paddling. To ensure quality and consistency, the four core team members will be retained within the structure of the course for it's entirety.
Trainers/Tutors:
- Stuart Woodward: BCU L5 Coach/Assessor/Professionally qualified Alpine WW Guide, owner of Canoe Control. Been involved in private and professional Expeditions to N. America, N. Africa, Europe, India and Nepal. Also over 20 years experience of operating is Alpine kayak School in France.
- Bob Timms: BCU L5 Coach/Assessor/UK WW Raft Trainer and Examiner. Paddled on four continents including expeditions to Nepal, India, S America and extensive European paddling. With over 14 seasons of working on French Rivers
- Jim Hill: Has a PE degree, worked as a special needs teacher. He has paddled extensively in Europe, N&S America, New Zealand, India and Nepal. Worked as a Coach Educator/BCU L4 Coach in the UK and France and also as a professional sea and river guide in the US, Norway and French Alps.
- Rob Pilkington: Worked in the South of France for over 6 seasons. Has gained an immense amount of boating experience in Europe, Nepal and India. He has also been busy racking up his BCU/UKCC awards and acquiring a great deal of quality coaching/guiding experience.

Location:
Ardeche & Cevennes region. Venue and time of year has been chosen to maximize the guaranteed water opportunities, that are available in these areas every spring.
Accommodation (Gite CC Ardeche Base) Valon-Pont-d'Arch:
Is self-catering in a well appointed and proportioned detached Gite, almost center to the old town of Valon-Pont-d'Arch. It has three twin bedded rooms a well appointed kitchen. W/mc bathroom/wc The Gite has ample secure boat storage and drying areas, private parking is to the front for our mini buses and trailer.
In the garden there is ample space for BBQ and relaxing in the sun.
The town of Valon-Pont-d'Arch:
Is at the head of the run down the famous Gorges de l'Ardeche and with ease of access to the mid and upper Ardeche. There is also quality Mountain biking and rock climbing close by. The town center is great for bars, restaurants and shopping as it's literally a few minutes walk away from the Gite.
Course costs Include:
- Airport transfer. From Marseilles or Nimes
- Self-catered Gite accommodation
- All camping equipment and food included if on overnight camps away from CC Valon Gite base.
- All Coaching/Guiding/Training/Assessments
- All BCU Course registration fees (not BCU membership or certificate fees)
- Boats (Pyranha Kayak & Venture Canoe) and Equipment (BA, River Jacket, Helmet, Wet suit, Wet boots, Rescue/Emergency Gear and paddle etc)
- All transport within the course program.
Does not include:
- Flights
- Any mode of transport to the courses venue

(The BCU Moderate Water Endosement course is over a two days. One day Training and One day Assessment).
At Canoe Control we offer an alternative: From earlier this year we have provided (MWE) courses with two days of coach training. We also offer the one day assessment, but can be taken at a later date (dates available). This we feel offers a more comprehensive course, giving the candidate the opportunity to digest information and time to consulated skill before taking the assessment. However we still offer the BCU course of one day training one day Assessment, this course is taken over consecutive days.
Core componants include:
- BCU MWE syllabus
- Two days of moving/white water coaching/leadership and personal skills training
- Sessions on transfering coach skills safely into a dynamic medium
- All sessions run in a fully active (wet) out door environment (no class rooms or power-point presentations).
