The French Alps

The Southern French Alps Classic Alpine kayaking
(and much more)

A Great Paddling Destination.

Snow capped mountains etched against an electric blue sky. Exciting white water rivers flowing down valleys warmed by a hot Mediterranean sun.
Excellent inexpensive local food and wine with a relaxed French culture. No wonder the Southern French Alps remains the UK boater’s number one paddling destination.

Ice & Snow
During the winter the Mountains and Valley's of the Ecrin Massif and the Queyras are lands of contrasts. Frozen waterfalls cascade down the north-facing slopes of the river Fournel valley. Whilst the river Biasse valley warms with its sunny south-facing slopes at Freissinières, and the mighty river Guil is just a trickle. The whole area however is dominated by the vastness of its 4,000 meter Mountains, Pelvoux, Barre des Ecrins, Mon Viso and la Merje.

Winter Play Ground
At this time of year these mountains are generally the domain of the confirmed mountaineer. Whilst on the fringes of the Ecrin Massif and in the Queyras the ski resorts swell the local population.

Warm Spring & Hot Summer Play Ground
In the spring the warm Mediterranean sun spreads northward, the snow and ice then melt. Giving reason for other out door enthusiasts to arrive to this mecca of summer Alpine activities. The crampons and skies make way for paddles, bikes, climbing kit and walking boots. Kayaks and rafts abound on some of the best white water rivers in Europe, mountain bikes head off on some of the most amazing trails and the walkers and climbers head for the hills and crags.

Where Eagles Fly
So many natural wonders and within an area with such diverse Flora and Fauna.
Marmots, chamois, wolves, lynx, wildcat, golden eagles, eagle-owls, black grouse, brown and rainbow trout, Arolla pines, larches, edelweiss, Martagon lilies, Orchids and more…
