Canoe Control Course

The Canoe Control River Rescue Courses are available in a number of locations in the South West.

Both Adv and Basic are 'full-on' no punches pulled rescue courses. The course will start with a full review of the group’s equipment including the dangers caused by poor design, wrong application and faulty manufacturing. This will enable the group to proactively discuss and familiarise themselves with current equipment and issues. Together we will find out what we really need to carry, what gear works, what fails and what is inherently dangerous. Practical sessions will give you the opportunity to practice using the gear you carry to its full potential in realistic simulations. The first day will end with evening lecturettes and a discussion forum. The second day will consist of a number of 'hands on' workshops, putting all the theory into practice with simulations of probable scenarios in real locations. We will be setting up stopper rescues, vertical and river pins, entrapments, harness belays, swimmer and boat rescue, etc.

During the summer this course is also available in the Alps and Provence as a 2-day course, with a range of accommodation options. For further information on Alpine courses please refer to the French Alps page on the main menu.
